Celebrate Mom with a Scenic Countryside Tour!

Treat Mom to a special Sunday she’ll never forget! Take a leisurely drive through the charming Strathcona County countryside, stopping at designated locations for a unique Mother’s Day experience.

Imagine this:

The warm sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and breathtaking rural landscapes stretching out before you.
Stopping at charming stops hosted by:

  • Local vendors offering their finest products.
  • Knowledgeable farmers eager to share their passion for agriculture.
  • Even a historical site to journey back in time with Mom.
  • It’s a farmers market on wheels! Explore at your own pace, hopping from stop to stop and meeting the friendly faces that make Strathcona County and Beaver County special.

Here’s the Plan:

  • Grab your Adventure Journal at any one of the stops listed here or download the story map from the website (available May 1).
  • Enter the draw at any one of the stops to be eligible for tour prizes AND prizes throughout the 2024 summer season
  • Fill out the entry form clearly and check the box so we can stay in touch and let you know about our other events.
  • Pack a picnic basket of Mom’s favourites or purchase lunch at Pierogerie.

Don’t forget the cooler – perfect for keeping any purchases or picnic goodies chilled.

It’s a Mother’s Day she’ll cherish – quality time spent with you, surrounded by beautiful scenery and the warmth of community. Let’s celebrate Mom in style!

1. Barr Estate Winery

Yes, we do have Alberta wines.  Join Rick and team at his cottage winery. Stop in and stock up. From the original, The Barb (rhubarb wine) to the latest addition The Jewel (sour cherry) purchase a bottle, enjoy walking about this working farm that is home to sheep, goats, donkeys and sometimes cows.  Sign up for scheduled guided tours that will take place at 1 and 4 pm. 2. Carla Lehman Photography

Carla Lehman is an award winning photographer whose work has been recently chosen for display in the prestigious PPOC National Salon Exhibit .  Carla invites you to her acreage where you can utilize her sets to capture images with your own cell phones or book to have a professional portrait or mini photo session.  Call for pricing and to pre book a professional photo 780-918-6241 If you didn’t pre book you can take your chances on a first available space on the day of if you so chose.

Using traditional recipes this certified organic farm uses time honoured recipes to hand craft Polish foods. Having recently acquired approval to cook and serve from the farm their kitchen will be ‘open’ for you to purchase not only frozen cabbage rolls and pierogis to take home but also a freshly prepared meal to eat at the farm.

4. Lamberry Ranch

Why and frankly how does one set about to start farming?  That’s a great question to ask Gwen when you stop at Lamberry Ranch. Walk the land and hear her dream for the property. You will no doubt be back in Saskatoon season to pick berries but on this trip on this day it’s farm fresh eggs (while they last) that you will want to take home with you. Bring a cooler and stock up.

5. Dr Dean Mackenzie’s Bee Hive

Dr. Mackenzie is renowned for his work with bees land reclamation. Not only will you see a working hive but Dr Dean’s knowledge and his work using bees in reclamation projects in the Fort Mc Murray /Fort Chipewyan area and with Bee Clean in urban areas is making a difference in our world.  This is a contact you want to make if you too care about the future of our province’s natural health.

6. Beaverhill Lake Nature Center

Built in 1996, this facility combines the natural and cultural history of Tofield, interpretive information about Beaverhill Lake, tourist information, local artists display and more.

7. Wildwood Perennials

Perennials are the best way to celebrate summer year after year!  At Wildwood Perennials you will find just what you need for that. A little out of the way but in a beautiful subdivision that not only will you be able to find the answers to what you could and should be planting you will wish you could come home to the beauty of country living every day.

8. The Sour Moose

New to the Tofield scene is the sweetest store east of Edmonton. This little candy shop is the perfect treat stop. From unique sweet candies to those difficult to find Bugles spend some time discovering your old favourites and perhaps some new favourite candies and treats.

9. Maple Park Farm

What would Mother’s Day be without a stop at a greenhouse?  This small family farm opened their greenhouse in the spring of 2005. In 2019 they received the BMO Family Farm Award .  They have a passion to grow and a driving desire to give back. They are involved in many community collective projects. Discover the beauty of spring at Maple Park Farm and perhaps take home a few veggies and flowers to grow in your gardens that will remind you of this drive in the countryside.
